This was done for the1988 hardcover edition of The History Of The D.C. Universe and shows Darkseid as the featured villain, Orion, Lightray, Mister Miracle, Big Barda, and Kalibak The Cruel. Steve Rude light boxed the inks for this Kirby piece onto another board and added a couple of touches of his own such as extending the restraining device above Mr. Miracle's head. A printed acetate layover was made from Steve Rude's inks and placed over the original hand-colored art board (see other entry in this gallery). When Steve gave the penciled piece back to Jack, Steve wrote a "thank you note" at the bottom of the piece. This extremely rare penciled piece is signed by Jack Kirby. hardcover edition of The History Of The D.C.
