HERRIMAN, GEORGE - Krazy Kat / Family Upstairs DBL Daily 1910-1911 very first Brick gag?

Media Type: Pen and Ink
Art Type: Strip Art
Artists: George Herriman All

George Herriman The Dingbat Family/Family Upstairs/Krazy Kat comic strip original art (King Features Syndicate, c. 1910-1911).

This may be the earliest "Brick-to-the-Head" Krazy Kat strips EVER!,br> George Herriman's most famous creations turned out to be the housecat and the mouse that lived in the Dingbat's apartment! They began in the backgrounds and eventually got their own companion strip (such as this one), and in 1931 spun off into their own full feature set in the very surreal Coconino County, Arizona.
Although this one is not dated at all, this is what we know for sure... The first "Brick-to-the-Head" gag was in the July 26th, 1910 strip (Granted it was a "pebble" and not a brick, but that was the start of it all). So this strip is probably not older than that. On November 15th, 1911, the building that they all lived in was demolished, and the Dingbat Family (with Kat and Mouse) parted ways with the never-seen-but-constantly-annoying Family Upstairs. So this strip is somewhere in that narrow window of 16 months!,p> The daily was created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with a combined image area of 27" x 9". Signed in the last panel of the Family Upstairs strip.
