MCCAY, WINSOR - Little Nemo In Slumberland Sunday and Pilgrim's Progress 10-27 1907, Greatest of all Golden-Age comic strips! Nemo and Flip are being led through a field of diamonds by Impie!

Winsor McCay, born Zenas Winsor McCay was a highly influential cartoonist and early animator, who is well-known for his comic strip Little Nemo in Slumberland and for his early animated cartoon Gertie the Dinosaur.

His first continuing comic strip was Mr. Goodenough which started running in 1904, later that same year his first popular comic strip Little Sammy Sneeze was debuted. Due to contractual obligations, McCay created the pen name “Silas” which he used to produce work for other newspapers. In 1904 as well his longest-running strip, Dream of the Rarebit Fiend was created under the name Silas. Then, the year after in 1905 was the start of what is considered by many his magnum opus, the Sunday strip of Little Nemo in Slumberland was first printed.

Nemo and Flip are being led through a field of diamonds by Impie (although at this point, he was still referred to as "The Imp" and would not be called "Impie" until 1912)! This Sunday feature was created in ink over graphite on two sections of Bristol board for a combined image area of 21.75" x 27.5".
The reverse side on one of the sections has one of McCay's other strips... A Pilgrim's Progress by Mister Bunion, as "Silas".
