Political cartoonist J. S. Pughe (1870-1909) was the star artist for Puck, America's first cartoon humor magazine. His cartoons, often gracing the magazine's cover, reflected the magazine's politics: conservative Democrat, hostile to Republicans but also to William Jennings Bryan's "Silver Democrats".
