That inspiration to Red Blooded Americans everywhere and Abner's "ideel," Fearless Fosdick, makes a very early appearance in this Sunday, as Abner frets over his hero's newest adversary, Stone Face. Al Capp could be savagely funny poking fun at other comic strips and people (like the merciless parody of his bitter rival, Ham Fisher, as "Happy Vermin"), but in these early appearances, Fearless was more of a gentle burlesque of Dick Tracy than the wild, bullet-hole riddled buffoon of later strips. This excellent Sunday appeared just ten months after Fosdick's debut in August, 1942.
